28 Dominoes

Day 28 of the June 1-30 Challenge.

There are 28 dominoes in a full set of dominoes. Do you like to play dominoes? Do you like to play games? Why or Why not? What are your favorite games? Tell us about a time you played a game with friends or family.

I do very much like playing games, because I have a very competitive streak in me. Dominoes are fine, but I think they’re never very exciting. There are no game changers, you just play your tile and then the next person goes.

My favorite games are Monopoly, Yahtzee, the Game of Life, those kind of games where you have to know what your opponents like, and anything by Cranium.

Monopoly is probably my favorite, because first of all I like long and involved games, and secondly because…I never lose.

Okay, that’s a little bit of a lie. I do lose, and I lose with dignity, but I don’t win with dignity at all, and that happens a good nine out of ten times. I get really dominating and power-hungry when I play this game, which isn’t me in real life at all, and kind of makes my family scared of me because of how ruthless I become.

One game I don’t like is Apples to Apples, and it’s because of a stubbornness I’ve carried from childhood that for whatever reason, I just would not play it.

I broke tradition last September at a party, when that was the game that was pulled out of the closet. I had no experience with it, so I just picked whatever card my gut told me too.

And it shocked my friends. See, this party was all theater people, and I’m a very sweet, quiet, and meek kind of girl at the theater. So when I was picking things like “JFK” for “false,” and “airplane crash” for “inconvenience,” they laughed the roof off the house in horror, and said “Violetta, it’s like we’re just meeting you!”

It was very embarrassing, because I’d never had so much attention paid to me at a party before. But they’re theater people, so I know they forgot it the next day.
